WhatsApp QR or Cloud API: Differences and Risks
QR describes a linking method, not commercial approval. Distinguish official linked devices from third-party automated connectors, and evaluate Cloud API using its actual requirements.
Do not confuse the code with the provider
Linking devices through QR can be part of official WhatsApp. This does not make every library automating a session an official integration. Ask which product, provider and terms support the connection.
Plan Cloud API
The official path uses business assets and WhatsApp Business Platform configuration. Inventory the business, account, number, permissions, webhooks and access owners. Business approval alone does not prove a number can receive and send messages.
Evaluate operational risk
For third-party connectors, assess session expiry, relinking, dependencies and message loss. Keep a bounded pilot and a documented exit. Do not promise freedom from restrictions or guaranteed continuity.
Make a verifiable decision
Prepare a matrix with each prerequisite’s status and evidence. In PEVENDE, describing experimental QR or planned Cloud API does not mean those connections are active. Test reception, reply and recovery before broadening use. Document who may relink a number and how disconnection is reported. An operational alert needs an owner who can act; displaying a status without follow-up does not resolve the failure. Test this process using a bounded pilot, not production customer traffic.
Practical checklist
- Identify whether the provider is official or third-party.
- Review assets, permissions and recovery.
- Validate real messages before declaring availability.
